Edenfield Plunge - the hidden waterfall in Manchester you probably didn't know existed!

I love finding hidden gems, especially in my hometown - so when I stumbled upon this incredible spot I knew I had to share. Whilst it's technically just outside the Greater Manchester border, I'd still class this as a hometown win - especially seeing as it has a Bury postcode...

Located in Rossendale is the small village of Edenfield, where you can find Edenfield Plunge. Not only is it a perfect spot to take a break in nature, it's also a great spot for some landscape photography shots!

Surprisingly, it's actually pretty easy to locate despite it being so secluded. We went to visit on Bank Holiday Monday, around noon and were the only people there for around 45 minutes before a couple of dog walkers showed up.

From the centre of the village it's only around a 7 minute walk down to Plunge Road, and then straight on down until you reach the entrance to Dearden Clough and the waterfall will be on your right - you'll hear it before you see it though!

Don't be put off by the 'dead end' sign at the entrance to Plunge Road - it is a publicly accessible path, just not by car, so if you're driving you'll have to park up in the centre and walk down from there.

You can even go for a wild swim in the pool at the base of the waterfall - but you may have to share this with any dogs who choose to go for a dip with you.

Though there isn't all that much to explore at the actual waterfall other than following the the path of running water down the brook, there's a lot to explore in Dearden Clough just past the plunge.

Whether you're just looking for a place to explore and take some time out from the busy day-to-day or you're looking for a fun family day out, Edenfield Plunge is the place to go. Do make sure kids are always supervised though, as it is running water and can be quite slippery underfoot.

It's also definitely worth packing some wellies so you can fully immerse yourself in exploring along the brook, plus towels are a wise move too - just in case you do fancy a dip or simply want to sit alongside the water.

If you're looking for a relaxing day out to get back to nature then save this spot for your UK travel bucket list!
